Leonard is a small, white mini-mule who found himself on a feed lot in Texas. A feed lot is usually a large, noisy, unruly place with various kinds of equines, all confined in a small area. Many of these are sadly destined for the slaughter houses of Mexico, and a terrible end. This was not to be the end of the journey for Leonard, however, but just the beginning of this new part of his life. Now he listens to kids read and helps them to develop their academic skills.
Sammy is a paint gelding that grew up in a pasture in Utah. His mother was a pony who was rescued by Dust Devil Horse Sanctuary. That was where Sammy was born. He came to live with Leonard and I in Las Vegas in April of 2019, when his adoptive owner had some life changes and could no longer care for him. Sammy loves eating, playing with his brother Leonard, going for walks, and putting everything in his mouth.
Blossom and Apple are mini's. Blossom is the mother of Apple. They were acquired at an auction by Equine Rescue of Aiken. We went to their facility and met Blossom and saw how good she was with people. Her baby Apple came out of the stall to greet us and we knew we had to adopt both of these animals. They now live at LEARN and love to work with children.
Midnight is an 11 year old gelding black quarter horse. Midnight came to LEARN through an organization called Charlie Five. This organization helps Veterans and First Responders by pairing them with a horse companion. Another individual from War Horses for Vets donated Midnight to this cause. Greg is training with Midnight to do team roping.
